Parish Minister

Under the direction of the Parish Leader, the primary responsibility of the Parish Minister is to engage with the parishioners in the distribution of Beyond Baptism educational materials at their assigned Mass and to assist with events and gatherings. There will be a team of Parish ministers to cover each of the Parish Masses. The team will work together to successfully implement the Beyond Baptism Ministry with the goal of bringing Catholics to a deeper personal relationship with Christ and an unwavering commitment to the Eucharist.

Responsibilities:

  • Distribute educational materials at assigned Mass as needed – typically twice a month. This requires a high level of engagement with the Parish. This is not just handing materials out after Mass but actually connecting with parishioners to help them understand better the role of the Eucharist and strengthening their relationships with Christ.

  • Work with Parish Leader and the other ministers to plan for and implement key Beyond Baptism events called Breaking Bread (1 session each) and Come to the Table (3 sessions each). Unless there is a designated events team, this may also entail complete event planning including setting up the room, coordinating food, facilitating table discussions and cleaning up.

  • Work and communicate with the other ministers to establish a welcoming environment and to help educate the parish through Beyond Baptism training. Share your knowledge of our faith to help grow and strengthen the faith of the congregation.

  • Meet with the Parish Leader and Minister team periodically to provide feedback and suggestions on how to better engage the Parishioners in the Beyond Baptism ministry.

  • Assist Parish Leader in the identification of future ministers in accordance with the succession expectations of the Beyond Baptism ministry.

  • Engage in the required Beyond Baptism training.

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable engaging with the parishioners in faith filled discussions

  • Some level of facilitation skills a plus

  • Belief and passion that Jesus lives in the Eucharist

  • Willingness to engage in training to better understand the goals and mission of Beyond Baptism and an ability and desire to share that knowledge

  • Works well with a team providing support to all members

  • Positive support of and commitment to the success of the Beyond Baptism ministry

  • Willingness to mentor, inspire and train others

  • Be empathetic and humble

Time Commitment:

  • Term – Two years

  • Weekly - This would typically require approximately 45 minutes a week during Mass

  • Events – Approximately 2 – 3 hours assisting with the set up and delivery of events 3 – 4 times a year

  • Training and Team Meetings – Initial training is virtual and consists of three 1 ½ hour sessions.
